Our comment from DrivingSchools.Directory about Rider Safe:
Expert Instructors Dedicated to Rider Safety
Rider Safe is a government-run compulsory training program designed to equip novice motorcyclists with the essential skills for road safety. The curriculum is structured into a Basic Rider Course and an Advanced Rider Course, both delivered by experienced instructors who specialize in motorcycle training. The Basic course is split into two half-day sessions: Session A focuses on fundamental bike control, braking, and cornering in a safe off-road environment, while Session B introduces traffic interaction and advanced control theory, culminating in a practical assessment. For those with a learner's permit for at least six months, the Advanced course offers a half-day session emphasizing road riding skills and traction theory, leading to an R-Date Licence upon successful completion.
Highly Rated Teaching Staff and Supportive Learning Environment
The core strength of Rider Safe lies in its dedicated teaching staff. Many students highlight the patience, professionalism, and approachability of instructors such as Brian, Patrick, Simon, Dave, John, Don, Dean, and Lorraine. These instructors are praised for creating a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere, helping nervous beginners build confidence through clear, one-on-one guidance. The team is commended for their genuine care in ensuring students develop safe riding habits and for their ability to make the learning process enjoyable and stress-free.
- Patient and Professional Instructors: Staff are frequently described as knowledgeable, supportive, and excellent at explaining complex maneuvers to beginners.
- Focus on Safety: The training emphasizes risk management and safe riding practices, with instructors taking the time to correct mistakes constructively.
- Positive Atmosphere: Many reviews mention the friendly humor and relaxed vibe of the classes, which helps alleviate anxiety for new riders.
Booking Challenges and Administrative Issues
Despite the high quality of the training, prospective students frequently report significant difficulties with the administrative side of the service. The most common complaint concerns the phone booking system, with many users describing extremely long hold times, frequent call disconnections, and a lack of responsive staff. This has led to frustration for those trying to schedule their courses or manage changes to their bookings. Additionally, some students have noted that the training materials, such as theory videos, appear outdated, and the condition of some training motorcycles could be improved.
- Phone Connectivity: Customers often struggle to get through on the phone, with reports of hours on hold or calls being cut off.
- Online Booking Limitations: The online system can be restrictive, making it difficult to reschedule or find available slots.
- Resource Updates: Some learners suggest that training videos and bike maintenance need modernization to better reflect current riding standards.

Negative experience: i had a license course booked and paid, i have been trying to reschedule for over a week as i have injured myself. i have obviously gone onto the service sa website and tried to change the booking but because there are no bookings available (booked out in calendar and wont allow to go further) i cant! I have tried ringing multiple times a day for a week and no one answers. stay on hold for 20 minutes for it to say sorry we cant answer at moment and to stop long call waits we are hanging up try again later..... This is crazzzzy! There is no one to talk to and I cant change it. I have tried for a week and i better not have to repay due to no show and not notifying unable to make. Who ever has setup this new process has not thought about things like this happening where the system wont allow you to change it in mygov account if there are no calendar days available to swap it to....
Fantastic experience: Brian from Rider Safe is absolutely fantastic. His customer service is outstanding—he genuinely goes above and beyond to help resolve any questions or concerns. I can imagine his role is quite demanding, yet he remains patient, thorough, professional, and an all-round good guy. Thank you, Brian, for consistently delivering such a wonderful customer experience across every interaction. The Rider Safe instructors truly care about helping you become a safe, responsible rider while developing strong habits to ensure you make it home safely after every ride. All of the instructors were knowledgeable, supportive, and had a great sense of humour, which made the experience even more enjoyable. Patrick was my one-on-one instructor, and even when I made a couple of wrong turns, it was never an issue. He made me feel comfortable, relaxed, and encouraged me to enjoy the ride. Thanks, Patrick. Full credit to the Rider Safe team. Well done, and thank you for a fantastic experience!
Fantastic experience: Absolutely fantastic! Wonderful guys running the place, very safe, slow and involved. Its less daunting with a smaller group! Thanks guys!!
Negative experience: Trying to book in for learners course, online says no dates available and no one answers the phone when trying to call
Negative experience: I completed part 2 of my motorbike license this month and end of last month, part 1 of my R date was with Simon and Dave both top blokes, great understanding and great at explaining things to the class, on road part was easy as well and gave us really good information to progress to part 2 of our r date. I completed part 2 of my r date yesterday with I believe Pat, really tall bloke, I asked before we even got on the road best way if we miss directions or forgot and was told to just pull over, I have some short term memory loss and severe adhd my mind is a crazy ride 24/7, I missed a few turns of course because I was nervous but this guy continued to make it worse, after my 3rd time of missing a turn when we pulled over he comes up to me and is like “can you just pay attention to what I’m saying and listen” I explained that I had short term memory loss and was doing my best to remember the turns. He continued to get annoyed and I feel like it ended up impairing his judgement (I passed the course btw) If I had to do my course again I’d rather quit than go with him, seriously turns me off advising people to go for their licenses. Such a underfunded disappointing experience, there should be a place to put feedback that is genuinely listened to.
