Rally School Melbourne: Reviews
Fantastic experience: Brilliant staff. Fun day!
Fantastic experience: 10/10 experience. This isn't just a hoon around a dirt track, this is a learning experience and lesson on how to handle a rally-spec car on a gravel track. The on-board instructors were super professional and give you proper advice and real time instruction to help improve your driving ability and lap times. Got to do 8 laps in a WRX and another 8 laps in a BRZ so you get to experience both AWD and RWD cars. After you complete your laps in the cars, the instructors take you for a hot lap and show you exactly how it's done! Staff were very friendly, happy to answer any questions and also down for a chat! I highly recommend this experience!
Fantastic experience: Awesome fun, Matt was an excellent instructor who was calm delivered clear instructions. Excellent
Fantastic experience: Greggy and the guys were amazing especially with having the family there. Was a great experience and worth the money
Negative experience: Paid for this 18 months ago. Numerous cancellations, track closures, no one answers the phone and dates are very far out to book. Don’t waste your time or money.
Fantastic experience: A must experience for car lovers or just anyone looking for a fun adrenalin fueled day!
Fantastic experience: Got the 16 lap option as a gift for my partner's birthday and he absolutely loved it. Instructors were very knowledgeable and professional in guiding him and pushing him towards his limits. There was a total of 10 drivers during our session and the whole experience took about 2h. To get the most out of it, I would definitely recommend to go for the 16 lap option as each round goes by pretty quickly. The guy running the business could do with a bit more friendliness ;) however it didn't have any impact on our experience overall.
Fantastic experience: Had a good time out there, thanks to Greggy, Ross and Matty all great staff made the experience all the more enjoyable. Would recommend
Fantastic experience: Brilliant fun. Friendly, knowledgeable instructors and legit cars!
Negative experience: The instructors were quite arrogant and made it difficult to learn as a female. My husband and I felt it wasn't the right environment for us, so we wouldn't recommend it as a joint gift. We left the day early, disappointed.
Fantastic experience: Had a great time yesterday, staff were experienced, gave clear instructions and had your safety and enjoyment at the forefront of the day at all times. Never felt held back from pushing myself or the car to the best of my abilities. Highly recommend the experience. Thanks Greg, Ross, Brendan and the rest of the team for a great day out!
Fantastic experience: Fantastic experience, heaps of fun learning car control on the rally circuit. Instructors happy to help and well balanced between pushing your skills to go faster and remaining safe. Great being able to choose between a few different cars too to be able to really feel how they handle differently on the course and require very different driving techniques.
Fantastic experience: What a fantastic experience! I bought this experience for my partner through red ballon and it was just fantastic. The team of guys were entertaining, talkative and great hosts. Paul especially! My partner had a thrilling time out doing the laps and it was really enjoyable for those watching too! Highly recommend!
Negative experience: Horrible experience, save your money, go go karting. I had more fun on the drive there in my own Evo (they have a long gravel driveway). The instructors won't let you drive much faster than walking pace, if you try and push it a little the instructors will tell you off and have a go at you. You'll have more fun putting $2 into a racing arcade machine. Their only Evo wasn't even working on the day, I had to drive the wrx.
Fantastic experience: You won't leave as a top class rally driver but you will get an opportunity and insight of what rally driving is like. My instructor was excellent he started of slow and lets you go faster as each lap goes by,and of course when he feels confident in your abilities. You need to have to be able to drive a manual gearbox. They do have a, "you bend, you mend" policy.
Fantastic experience: Highly recommend this, had a great time. Did the 16 lap 2-car + hotlap... if you're looking to be sliding sideways through lose gravel at 180kmph on your first go then you'll be disappointed like some of these other reviewers who think they're already pros, but if you want to learn the basics, get a feel for the cars, rip around a track and have a fantastic day out to get your first proper taste of rally driving then this won't let you down. Instructors were nice, friendly and helpful. Great as a birthday gift for blokes as I might not have done this for myself. Would like to see like a level 2 for people who have already done a course and want to maybe dive in a bit further.
Fantastic experience: I've always wanted to drive a rally car and this experience was an excellent way of doing it in a very fun and safe way. The instructors were great and I learnt a fair bit in a short time. Finally, the hot lap showed me how much more potential the cars have when driven by experienced rally drivers. I highly recommend it for anyone wanting a taste of rallying.
Fantastic experience: I had a half day experience and loved it. Cars were well setup and the instructors gave good advice and guidance to increase your speed and enjoyment of the track. Ignore the previous reviews saying they were stuck in 3rd gear, 3rd gear is plenty fast enough and I was getting into 4th in some areas of the track. If you are a bad driver they will keep the speed down but if you have any skill you will get the speed up and have plenty of fun sliding the car around.
Negative experience: It should be renamed Dirt-driving-for-dummies School. You don't get to do any "rally driving" as such but just drive as clean as possible because they're too scared of damaging their cars. I can understand that, as the tracks are quite tricky for a beginner, they're lined with potential hazards on the sides, and for some people it's tricky enough just to do that. The instructors are nice but quite pedantic about keeping it clean and steady all the time. Basically we can say the tracks are not suitable for beginners, so they don't allow you to experiment and push your limits. That's fine, but then don't trick people into thinking they'll be doing any rally driving at all, other than the hot laps! The hot laps are good, but just do those and go elsewhere if you're serious about a full rally driving experience behind the wheel and not just a course on clean driving on dirt roads. I don't totally regret doing it as a first time experience, but wouldn't do it again.
Negative experience: Not worth it. For a third of the price go to ACE Karts or something similar. You'll get a better 'rally' experience there for sure. Spent 3 hours there. Drove for 5 minutes, hot lap was 10 seconds long.
Negative experience: Hot laps were cool, just do those, the driving is very tame and restrictive. Expensive and they want you to buy more. Advert feels false
Negative experience: In the past couple of months I've done rally drives with both Rally School (Mount Cotterell, listed as Werribee) and Rally Drive (Parwan/Bacchus Marsh). Rally School they tell you a bit more about driving the car, but the track is hard packed and the instructor shouts at you if you put the car on to the loose for a bit of 'rallying' action or rev the car. You have a turbo car but never get to use it. So you just drive round in circles for a few laps, the drive home was more exciting. Rally Drive at Bacchus Marsh was great fun, lots of sliding around giving the car everything. Loved it and would highly recommend it. Loose track, hard not to have fun and the instructors help but soon work out if you can slide a car and give you tips to do it better.
