Metec Driver Training

Negative experience: I took my son, a pre-learner, to a driving lesson with Lawrence the instructor, and the experience did not meet our expectations. Lawrence introduced himself in a way that seemed unconventional, describing himself as “a little bit crazy” while making a circular gesture around his ear without providing any context or indication that it was meant to be a joke. This created a sense of tension for my son from the outset. During the lesson, when my son made common beginner mistakes, Lawrence reacted with awkward sniggering but did not provide any constructive feedback. Offering some guidance would have been more beneficial. By the end of the hour, my son felt deflated, as there was a complete lack of encouragement or advice. Would not recommend. PS: He's a smoker as well, so I feel like potential clients should be warned beforehand as some, like my son, are sensitive to certain smells.

Fantastic experience: Great place to learn how to drive manual and automatic, many different driving scenarios and gets you ready.

Fantastic experience: Went here today (8th May 2024) for a school excursion. Upon arrival, staff were very friendly and direct, making the sessions flow very well. We had two sessions: theory and practical sessions. The theory sessions give students all the information they need to know, such as how the car works, certain types of road laws and about the driver. For the practical session, I personally got to drive the manual car and whilst it was relatively complicated to understand, the instructor was very calm and patient, taking note of every action I took and making necessary adjustments if needed. Overall, LOTS of fun (every student I talked to described the experience as something along the lines of "so so fun"). Highly recommend checking this place out.

Fantastic experience: Excellent training….did 4WD training with Tony on the Saturday and gained some great skills and knowledge to start me on my “journey” as it were Booked into the Sunday too for Towing Course…Instructor Dennis guided myself and my wife in the basics of towing…and more importantly had us reversing like pros by the end of the day Busy days but enjoyed it very much and would recommend to anyone new to towing and 4WD…or anyone who has not done a course in that area Both instructors also went over vehicles with advice for set up and legal responsibilities

Fantastic experience: I am new to caravanning, so I decided to book in a towing course at METEC. All the pre-course information was emailed and sent out to me. Leanne was fantastic to deal with. I arrived on the Saturday morning and started with theory in the classroom. Axel delivered the theory in a funny and informative fashion. Learnt so much and he was easy to listen to. We went around to all the caravans and the instructors pointed out any safety issues with our vans. It was time to hit the road and Dennis was our instructor. You wouldn’t want anyone else to instruct you on every aspect of towing a caravan. * Hitching and un-hitching * Reversing in a straight line * 360 degree turn forward and backwards (Clockwise and Anti-clockwise) * Reverse Parking from left and right * Taken for a ride around the course including downhill in 1st gear, in and out of witches hats and other handy tips. METEC thank you, I feel more comfortable towing my caravan. Big thanks to Axel and Dennis.

Fantastic experience: Just finished my Intro to Women's Motorsport.Loved meeting like minded Women.Had a amazing time,of training.Loved how trainers were from different aspects of Motorsport. How I was trained,to set up of car, how to balance car out with braking and acceleration,heel to toe driving.Motorkana activities with orange cones, driving on track with trainer.Who pointed out how to improve our drive around the track.And different avenues of which we can get involved in different aspects of Motorsport.

Positive experience: I recently completed my caravan towing and manoeuvrability course. It was an enjoyable day with some challenging tasks to complete. The instructors Axle and John were friendly, funny and approachable, however I did find the third instructor quite blunt and intolerant in the way that she communicated with people. For example, when reversing the caravan if the driver moved the steering wheel incorrectly or too soon, she would often say things like "Why did you do that?" or "you're doing it wrong" or "I didn't say that you could do that". What this instructor needs to realise is that not everyone can be perfect at the click of a finger. We're all doing this course to learn, and mistakes are bound to be made. That was the only issue that I had with the course. Other than that, it was an enjoyable and informative day.

Fantastic experience: My husband and I have just completed the caravan driver training course with Metec. Although this is our 3rd van, it’s bigger and heavier and I wanted to feel confident behind the wheel and to share the driving. We both really recommend this course. We both learnt new things. I learnt a lot about hitching, towing and reversing safely as well as braking, I drove through the chicanes without touching one hat and reversed into a park under the guidance of our coach Dennis. We had a fabulous day with all of the staff involved and the office staff were super helpful. Everyone was very generous in sharing their knowledge. Thoroughly recommend the course.

Positive experience: Overall a good day. We thought we’d have more driving time though. A lot of the talking covered stuff we’ve done multiple times at school. We didn’t learn anything new and would have liked to do more of the ‘hard/defensive’ breaking and more driving time .

Fantastic experience: I undoubtedly believe that metec helped me tremendously in preparing for my test and that the lessons I had were worth every cent. My instructor (Lawrence) was witty and light hearted but also insightful and very knowledgeable. This helped me feel at ease during my lesson's with him and even my test as well feeling prepared. I highly recommend metec's services/instructors to any Learners or up and coming drivers.

Fantastic experience: Attended the one-on-one towing course with John who ensured everything being taught, was also being learned by me so that I received the best possible experience coming out of it. I can hit the road with confidence now thanks to this time spent and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to stay safe on the road

Fantastic experience: My partner and I attended the 4WD course and we had Tony as our instructor. This course was incredibly well priced and inclusive of all cars, ages and experience levels. The group was small and made for a better one on one learning experience. There was a good amount of theory and practical with Tony there to guide us through obstacles. Tony was incredibly helpful, in depth and answered all questions. The short tracks we drove included hills, small amount of mud/water, ruts, rocks, grass and narrow turns. We did an ABS test where Tony sat in with us and instructed us when to brake so we could feel how the car would handle. The course was so inclusive as we were able to get out and swap drivers at anytime and Tony really encouraged us to all give it a go. We highly recommend this course to anyone of any skill level. You will definitely learn something! We covered absolutely everything from tyre change to seating posture to recovery. Thank you to the METEC team

Fantastic experience: My 16 yo daughter recently attended METEC for a 2-DAY LEARNER'S COURSE for Pre-Learners and Learner Drivers with 0-20 hrs experience. The course was led by safety conscious Darren, whose easy going yet straight-forward manner and professional instruction set the pace for both days. My daughter fell into the Zero Hours experience category, and I feel the course was the best introduction to driving for a neophyte such as herself, and without the stress that sometimes comes from Mum and Dad. A big thank you to all the kind, helpful and professional administrative staff and of course all of Darren's co-driving instructors. Together, your team made my daughter's introduction to driving rewarding and very fulfilling. We would both wholeheartedly recommend this course for other teenagers approaching this important goal in their lives. Get started on the right foot with METEC!

Fantastic experience: I volunteered as a time official with the Peugeot Car Club motorkana. Great day for all the drivers and organisers. The track loos really good. However I've never driven it. Leaving that to the experts.

Negative experience: Very un-professional service, engines not maintained, sticky throttles, chokes that are close to being fully stuck on, licenses are handed out to almost anyone that passes the test. I have witnessed people pass the test even after dropping their bikes, it made me feel sick about how unsafe the roads will continue to get!!! And on top of that I have proof of clear covid 19 guidelines being completely violated. Can not recommend as I think some sort of audit needs to be conducted.

Fantastic experience: My wife and I did the caravan towing course here and couldn't be happier with the content, delivery and instructors. The on-site, varying on-road driving experience was great, especially with the torrential rain we experienced on the day! Nothing like real learning!

Positive experience: Great for first time drivers, motor cycle training. But not for people who are mostly confident with driving on regular roads.

Fantastic experience: Went there with school and it was amazing. Anita helped me out so much on learning how to use the clutch. They have their own private roads and it was slightly easy for me since I already have my learners so it made things easier. The slalom course was the easiest part and it was fun to test how my steering was going. I was a little too far from the curb while doing the 3-point turn but it was easy to do so. I found it impressive that they had traffic lights and a level crossing. This is definately an amazing place to learn how to drive...although one of the girls I was with kept revving the car instead of moving forward and one of the other girls almost crashed into the level crossing. Too bad there was no fake trains going past

Fantastic experience: Having researched and planned the grand caravan adventure as we approach retirement , we invested in a good 4 x 4 and a new caravan. With such a large investment it was important to ensure both of us (wife and I) had the skills to properly and safely tow the caravan. On booking to attend the course we received the Tow-Ed book and also a Tow-Ed DVD - both of value. We did the METEC course a few weeks before collecting our new van and were able to hire a similar sized (dual axle) van for the day. Highly recommend the METEC Caravan tow course - a full day - there were 5 other couples, all with different cars and vans, so we observed the instructors critiquing the set ups, combinations, discuss tow capacity, hitches, weight distribution etc; short time in the class room and then outside all day for a great learning experience . Three great instructors (which allowed 1 instructor for 2 couples for the actual practical training) , a good facility to allow plenty of practice straight line reversing, reverse parking (left and right) , turning, hill starts, reversing up inclines and so on. There are even roundabouts, hairpin bends and a railway crossing! We both learnt so much and at the end of the day had far more confidence. a "must do" for anyone considering caravanning. Bonus also - this gives you a discount on your caravan insurance with CIL.
