Fantastic experience: When I first started riding with Simon I had never ridden a bike before. Over my time riding with Simon and Malcolm I became more confident and I passed my test. Both instructors are very passionate about bikes and riding safely. They are brilliant teachers and very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed my lessons with them and will be back for my R class!! Thanks guys, you are both bloody legends!!! :D

His instructions were not only clear and precise but also kind; an approach not naturally associated with any type of training nowadays. My only regret (after passing my RE licence) is the time I'll have to wait before I can receive some advanced motorcycle training from this man. I cannot thank him enough. 100% recommended.

Negative experience: The most unreliable, unprofessional person I have ever dealt with. My husband had 100% availability between December and his February Motocycle test. I requested they be booked in advance and stated we would pay extra to have him drive from Janebrook to Gidgegannup. We where cancelled, stood up without notice, and forgotten about a multitude of times. In 7 weeks he managed to get one lesson! Don't waste your time and effort when there are other options in the Midland area!

I've really enjoyed learning not only from Simon's years and years of experience with motorcycles, but also his evident ability to teach learners of all ages and comfort levels. Fantastic experience: I couldn’t speak highly enough of this company. Kody was very professional but also very relaxed, so I was able to learn a lot but at the same time enjoy my lessons. I passed my R E licence first time and only after 6/7 lessons. This is because kody gave me great advice during my lessons which I took into my test. I was given his number by a friend of mine who passed first time also, and I would definitely recommend him to anyone else who was looking to learn to ride.

Fantastic experience: I cannot recommend Simon highly enough at Smart Rider Midland and Lathlain enough. It had been around 5 years since I had ridden a motorcycle but I was keen to get back on the bike and pass my R class license. Simon immediately made me comfortable again on the bigger bike from day 1 and that only grew for each lesson. Simon appropriately planned each lesson for me based on my skill set and where he thought I needed work. When I was having some bad days, or doing something incorrectly, he would patiently talk me through my errors and clearly demonstrate correct techniques to get me to where I needed to be. After around a Month of lessons, Simon had me back on the bike and I passed my test first go. To top all of this off, Simon is just a great bloke and a pleasurable personality to be taught by. I couldn't have done it without you Simon. If you're looking for Motorcycle lessons in Perth, look no further.

Fantastic experience: Simon was a magnificent instructor who was able to help take me from beginner rider with minimal experience to a first time pass on my R-E PDA. It was easy to tell Simon takes a lot of pride in his work and is very clear with what he teaches. A very patient and thorough instructor who takes the time to properly explain what he teaches and helps understand why certain things on the road are necessary. Together, Simon and I were able to communicate very well during my learning experience and all my questions were answered in the best way possible. Simon takes great care of the bikes he teaches with and I can safely say the CB250 was a great bike to learn on. Simon would always keep up with proper maintenance and would ensure you are safe on the road at all times during the lessons. A great place to learn and I would highly recommend to anyone.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of passing my R-E licence under the tutelage of Simon at smartrider training. Simon is 100% passionate about motorcycling and this shows in his ability to analyse and convey his findings to you in a way which is easy to understand and remedy. His ethos is not only to teach you what is necessary in order to pass your test, but to also teach you the skills required to keep you safe out there on the mean streets. I also had the pleasure of having a couple of lessons with Kody who is equally capable as Simon. I will miss my Sunday lessons now I have passed, but I will return in a year to do my R class licence. If you are thinking of starting lessons I would highly recommend both Kody and Simon at smartrider training, an absolutely pleasurable experience, expert tuition and the fact that they are both top blokes is the cherry on the pie.

Fantastic experience: I had Kody as a teacher, he was great at instilling good habits on the road, and explaining the formalities required to pass the test. Acknowledging the better aspects of my riding and rephrasing a few things I was having trouble with into something I could easily understand. I had a particular deadline in mind, passing the assessment without any issues and now hitting the road with confidence. I plan on being back in a year for the R class!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Simon if you want to learn to ride a motorcycle safely. I hadn't ridden motorcycles at all before I initially went to see Simon 12 months ago for my R-E licence, and the skills and safety knowledge I learnt from him enabled me to pass both my R-E and just recently my full R class (with a few important refresher lessons from Simon) with clean sheets on both tests.

Fantastic experience: I approached Simon at Smart Rider Motorcycles for a few brush up lessons on my riding after a friend recommended him. I had been riding for many years in New Zealand, but when I came to Australia wanted to upgrade my license to an R after being pulled up by the cops one time to many and being done for riding out of class. But thinking no 'bike instructor' could show me anything I didn't know, I was a bit hesitant, and maybe just quietly, a little bit embarrassed, being the seasoned rider I am. Well boy, was I wrong!! Simon made me feel comfortable straight away with his causal demeanor and reassured my fragile ego that it wouldn't be as painful as I expected. On the road he was a wealth of knowledge, and while he complemented me on my actual bike riding, my knowledge of some of the road rules where more sketchy than that half eaten sandwich he threw in the bin the day I met him. Solid white lines on merging lanes being one of them. He also joking threatened to hit my ankle with a stick if I persisted on putting my wrong foot down when stopping at the lights, a bad habit from my years of 'know it all' riding lol (my words). In all It took 3 lessons for him to help me iron out those bad habits, and another one before my test, which, incidentally, I passed with flying colours. Simon, thanks again for your valued feedback and for not bringing out your 'big stick', but I still reckon your wrong about the best 'breed' of motorcycle lol. Steve Harwood

Awesome instructor, great road and motorcycle knowledge and most importantly knows how to teach (which cannot be said for a lot of instructors out there) . He got me through my R class first time and I don't usually perform well when being assessed. I am very happy to have my open class and also feel I am a better rider for being tutored by Simon. I will definitely go back to him once I have a bigger bike for some advanced lessons. Cannot recommend Simon enough.

Negative experience: I will not recommend Simon to anyone as my personal experience was horrible. As I got my R Class licence with full score by the help of another better instructor today, I thought of sharing my story rather than a review. I took more than 12 lessons from ‘Smart Rider’ a driving school owned by Mr Simon Poole and I booked my PDA at Midland as I dwell in the same suburb. However, I failed consecutively 3 times in the same month and as anyone can expect I blamed my luck and the licensing centre. Above all I had more than 15 years of riding experience outside Australia, So obviously I can handle any bike without much help, but I failed, why??? . Thus I decided to change my instructor as I wasn’t convinced with my previous failures and then I met an instructor at Rockingham. Believe it or not, I was so much impressed with his ways of teaching methods. He corrected all the wrong things that I had learnt from Simon and he covered all the possible scenarios that would help me to win R-licence and ride confidently. So after taking just 5 lessons he advised me to book a test at Rockingham centre and guess what? “I won my R Class license with full score”. So I decided to write this review because I don’t want anybody else to get fooled by non-competent instructors who mislead you to gain more money (the more you fail, more they earn) , I spent [12 classes ]70*12 + [3 PDA] 3*140 = $1260] with Simon and got plenty of depression and 3 failure sheets…. I don't know about the other reviews in this page but this is my personal experience, I don't think Smart-Rider deserves 5 star rating for the service it provided, probably people who suffered might have blamed their luck than the fact about learning better from a good instructor. So will not recommend this school to anyone. I think people who had bitter experience should call out and protest to make use of the real value of rating and reviews... RESPONSE TO OWNER: Definitely Simon, I took more lessons as I had to erase all the wrong things that you had taught me and learn best practices from a better instructor. No point in getting offended as I just wanted to let you & others know that, there are better instructors out there and everyone has to improve including you. So, if you want to be competent with those people you have to correct your methods and obviously change your old bike. However , no point in personally asking me to take this review down as this is my horrible experience and I don't want other people to get fooled. This review is not about the number of training classes required by anyone. Even after taking so many classes you did not teach me the correct ways where as the instructor taught that in most least classes. So obviously I am just pointing out the difference and there are better people out there. Google team, I can see hat this review has been hidden from public, possibly the owner might have some disbute as it's a negative one. So please feel free to contact me personally to prove that, this is a genuine review from my experience. Hope google will a keep its integrity to bring right information to the public.

Fantastic experience: Great instructor, extremely friendly. A little strict, but necessary to be so to get you to respect the machine you're riding!

Fantastic experience: Started learning on March 1st and passed my practical motorcycle test on March 21st (2017). Knows how to connect with those that want to learn how to ride the right way and, importantly, everything needed to know how to pass the test. I had scooter experience before and needed help with gears and test knowledge, in only a few lessons the gears felt almost automatic and I could start to focus on "road craft". We went through all that was needed to ride and then practiced to get to the level needed to both pass the test and stay alive while riding on the road. Even though I have passed my RE test I will be doing more lessons for bike maintenance and advanced road craft in the near future.

Fantastic experience: Initially I started training with Simon just over a year ago for my RE licence. I found his tuition insightful, thoughtful and comprehensive. I was provided all of the tools I would need not only to pass my test and get a licence, but most importantly to become a practical, safe and aware road user on two wheels. Most recently I revisited Simon for a couple of quick refresher lessons prior to sitting my R class, which I passed with a 'clean sheet', thanks in most part to Simon's consistent approach to instructing. Fantastic experience: My life changed when I started out on my motorcycle journey 2 years ago. Simon taught me to pass my RE, then again when I wanted to get my open class licence. Fantastic experience: Strongly recommended, friendly, safe environment. Simon could teach a wet towel how to ride. His knowledge base shines through when he is explaining each skill, what the bike is doing underneath you and scenarios/ situations to avoid or what to look for when riding on the road. I obtained my RE license with Simon at smart rider and I will be going back later this year to get my R license. Thanks Simon i love the freedom that comes with two wheels.

As a mature learner my first few lessons with Simon were crucial as at that stage I wasn't completely sure I would follow through with gaining my license or not.
