Fantastic experience: I’ve done my whole course with stay upright but the main stand out was Florin who was absolutely amazing and so down to earth helped ease through the whole process. If you’ve got florin you’re in for a treat! 10/10 recommend!!!!
Fantastic experience: Super grateful I did my learners permit here with two legends - Kristian and Florian. Both guys were professional, the bikes were reliable, the training was well delivered and the facilities were perfect. We had some non native English speakers in the group, as well as varying abilities on the bikes. But these guys were patient and took the time necessary to ensure everyone was at the required level before proceeding. Most of all these guys really left me feeling the almost spiritual aspect of riding. It's safety, it's friendships, freedom, technology... I'll never look at a bike or even the road the same again. The guys said "it's an honour to be part of our motorcycle journey from the beginning!" What legends! I'll be back for my check ride.

Fantastic experience: I recently completed my bike license, and I have to give a huge shoutout to my instructor, Flo! He was incredibly patient with me throughout the process, which made such a difference as I was feeling pretty nervous at first. His light-hearted and enjoyable teaching style really helped ease those nerves and made the whole experience so much more fun. What stood out the most was how much effort he put into making sure I felt comfortable and confident. He took the time to explain everything clearly, never rushed me, and always encouraged me, which was so reassuring. You can tell he genuinely cares about his students’ success and safety. Negative experience: Disclaimer: This review is purely to warn others about our experience at StayUpright Braeside. I am not seeking any form of resolution or compensation. We witnessed racist, sexist, and discriminatory behavior during our time there and want to help others avoid the same experience. Also beware the fake reviews. My partner and 2 friends attended their Two Day Learner Permit Course with Florin. He displayed racist behaviour on many occasions, beginning as early as when he called the roll, stating that a student’s Chinese name was not even a real name and that he should not be expected to use it. He continued to single out and harass that student for the remainder of the day. He was frequently angry or short tempered, often yelling aggressively and talking down to the class. He also made inappropriate sexualized comments to the two women in the class, such as asking them if they were “good or bad girls.” This left them in an awkward position, as they felt unable to challenge his unacceptable behavior after he and other instructors explicitly stated that they fail students who “annoy” them. He then provided my partner with a bike that she could not touch the ground on and proceeded to yell at her when she dropped it, making remarks about it being a huge deal, her fault, that she was causing problems and paperwork for him, etc. There is at least one lower bike for shorter students, which was not provided to her until later in the day. At lunch, he told the class that they had 15 minutes to eat. I can verify this through my call history as she called me when they were released and again when they returned. Upon returning, he claimed that he had only given them FIVE (5) minutes for lunch, and they were told they could not continue the course. She then called to relay this to me, merely FIFTEEN MINUTES after she had called to tell me they had been released for lunch. They were then subject to further discriminating comments and told to leave the premises. We later called Customer Service who were apologetic, allowing us to rebook the course at no cost. For the re-take, I booked on the course with her. Note that I already have my bike license but was coming along to ensure there was no repeat of the first experience. This time we had Jason who from my perspective was a significant improvement over Florin, though not without flaws. Jason almost immediately distanced himself from the responsibility of educating or ensuring his students passed, blaming course inadequacies on VicRoads. Note that the QLD curriculum is based off the same content as VIC, however I’ve completed 2 Learner Courses in QLD and both times the teachers took ownership of educating their students and facilitated great experiences. Although his instructing was decent, when it came time for the Day 2 Simulated Road Ride Assessment, he failed my partner on 2 components that were largely up to his discretion. They were the slow ride, which he said she completed 0.2 seconds too quickly (timing with a handheld stopwatch) and the emergency stop, which he said she was 2km/h under the required speed (claiming to measure her speed on.. a handheld stopwatch). He then proceeded to pass male students who had been causing safety incidents all day, neglecting to conduct head checks, cutting in front of other students, etc. There was zero equality when it came to assessment time and it felt very much that if you were a part of the boy’s club and could entertain the teacher’s discussions on Lego and Classical Motorcycles, you were passed regardless of how unsafe you were. In summary, I would not book a course (particularly as a learner) at this establishment if you feel you may fall into any of the categories that were discriminated against above. If I had not been an experienced rider, I would have felt incredibly uncomfortable attempting to learn in such a hostile environment. I have participated in 6+ educational motorcycle events across both QLD and VIC (including with StayUpright in other locations), and this is the only establishment I would warn against.

We are deeply troubled by the issues raised in your review and sincerely apologize for the negative experience you and your partner encountered. The behaviors described do not align with our values or the standards we expect from our instructors and courses. We are actively investigating the concerns and addressing the incidents you’ve outlined. Regarding your specific claims, we have spoken to both Florin and Jason about the events. In Florin’s case, he has stated that he would never make derogatory comments about a student’s name, citing his own background and the importance of mutual respect. Florin is highly reviewed by our customers both internally and look through our reviews (none of which are fake) our team has not observed any previous instances of disrespectful behaviour related to race. However, we recognise that perceptions and experiences matter, and we take your concerns seriously. As for the incident with Jason, he recalls that the student (Millie) was removed for returning approximately 20 minutes late from what was recorded as a 50-minute lunch break. On the same day, three students were removed from MPA courses—two from Florin’s and one from Jason’s group. While we acknowledge these facts, we understand how these decisions and communications could have impacted your experience negatively. To ensure all students feel safe, supported, and treated fairly, we are implementing the following steps: we will proceed with a thorough review of all feedback and interviews with instructors and students involved, continuing this week, Additional training for all instructors on inclusivity, communication, and professionalism is being prioritised to address any potential gaps. We constantly review our evaluation and assessment practices to ensure they are consistent, objective, and aligned with vicroads standards. Clearer guidelines will be implemented for break durations and course policies to prevent misunderstandings or confusion. Our team will also reach out to discuss your experience in more detail and ensure your feedback is fully addressed. We appreciate your patience and the time you’ve taken to bring these matters to our attention. If you have any further details to share, please don’t hesitate to contact us directly. Your feedback helps us grow and improve, and we are committed to making necessary changes to provide the best experience for all our students.

Positive experience: Had my learners course and check ride through stay upright braeside, while the instructor I had for the learners course was pretty rude, getting quite upset in multiple instances, Alan for the check ride was excellent and the reason my overall experience is quite positive. If you book in through them I would highly recommend Alan.

Fantastic experience: I've just recently completed my MLA with StayUpright and my assessor was Ryland. He is a wonderful and approachable guy, and that is extremely safety focused and knowledgeable about riding motorcycles. Fantastic experience: Just completed the 2 day learner course at Braeside with Jason as my instructor. Jason was funny, knowledgeable and very good at taking the stress and pressure off! He went above and beyond what was in the book by really explaining things in depth and even asking what our riding/bike purchasing plans were and talking us through it. He also had a really nice bike I got to admire for a couple days! Not a single negative thing to say about the course. Two thumbs up.

Our class were all welcomed and included with so much warmth, which helped to put any nerves at ease. Positive experience: G'day, had a check ride with Florin who is an absolute legend! Fantastic bloke with a enthusiastic personality and made everyone feel welcome! He played it safe and ensured everyone was up to standard too! Only suggestion for Stay Upright Braeside would be to ensure their facilities are fully stocked. Paper cups were missing from the water fountain and toilet paper too but these were only minor! Honda Hart Somerton has coffee pod machines with fresh milk which is always a plus! Look forward to coming back for the assessment at Braeside!
